Best Beach in the Caribbean

What’s the best beach in the Caribbean? I think it’s Valley Church Beach in Antigua! Before I visited this port of call I researched and researched the different beaches of the island.  Did you know that there’s a different beach for every day of the year on Antigua?!

That makes it kind of hard to chose don’t you think? I remember reading a review from a very well traveled woman who said Valley Church Beach was her all-time favorite … and she had been to beaches all over the world. I decided to try it out on our visit and am I glad I did!! I can now say it’s my favorite beach in the world.

We took a local bus (jitney) from the cruise port area (we had to walk a bit), and enjoyed seeing the island as we traveled there. I will never forget the landscape, it was amazing!

We made a vlog of our visit to Antigua. Well, there’s actually two vlogs. One vlog getting off the ship and getting to the local bus and the other vlog is of the beach itself.

I had never seen such a calm, clean, quiet, gorgeous beach in all my life! The water felt amazing! I was very buoyant in the water but it didn’t have that sticky salty feel like some beaches do. It felt more like being in fresh spring water than ocean water. It was extremely quiet and natural … there weren’t vendors trying to sell you stuff or tons of tourists.

I have been dreaming of going back to Valley Church Beach in Antigua on a cruise and my personal favorite cruise line is Norwegian and they are now sailing to this cruise destination! We had visited on a Costa ship and at that time Antigua was an exotic port. Since Hurricane Irma caused so much damage to St. Martin it’s now a more common port which makes me happy because Antigua is my favorite port in the Eastern Caribbean!

I hope that you will get the opportunity to visit this gorgeous island. If you want to go to Valley Church Beach or any of the other 364 beaches I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time. The local transportation is easy to get to from the cruise dock and there’s lots of shopping and dining options along the way, including a local market selling produce and local crafts.

If you’re a beer drinker and like to try local brews make sure to try Wadadli, it’s great! You can find it in the local bars and restaurants and also in the convenience stores where it’s cheaper.  Another great drink to try while you’re there is Ting! It’s a citrus flavored soda (similar to Sprite but more refreshing in my opinion) and it’s flavored with Jamaican grapefruit and has no preservatives. They call it Island Sunshine in a Bottle, and I agree!

Happy travels everyone, and please share with us your best beach in the Caribbean in the comments below.

2017 Cruise Plans

As you may have noticed sometimes our cruise plans change. This year we had the Crown Princess, Carnival Vista, and Independence of the Seas booked for Fall but we have recently canceled all of them. This is because we have different plans for the remainder of the year!

We decided we wanted to do something totally new … try Holland America Cruise Line! Yes we have cruised with HAL before, but it was back in 2003 (Zuiderdam and Zaandam), and 2005 (Maasdam). We never made cruise vlogs on Holland America ships before so we’re extra excited about sharing our experiences with you of course!

There are different ships to choose from leaving from Florida cruise ports in 2017; Nieuw Amsterdam, Koningsdam, Oosterdam, Eurodam, Prinsendam, Rotterdam, and the Veendam. All of these ships leave from Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) near Miami except for one, the Veendam which leaves from Tampa Florida.

We would love to go on any of these ships but we want an itinerary that includes something new for us. Most ships visit the same islands in the Caribbean. Nassau, Amber Cove Dominican Republic, San Juan Puerto Rico, Cozumel Mexico, St. Thomas, and the Cayman Islands (Grand Cayman). We would love to visit someplace we never visited before!

Last time we sailed on Holland America (on the Maasdam from Norfolk Virginia back in 2005) it was on a 10 night cruise which stopped at St. Kitts and Dominica. Both gorgeous islands that I’ve always wanted to return to, especially Dominica – called the Hawaii of the Caribbean. Finding ships visiting exotic ports is hard as usually they are 9+ days and do include some of the more “common” cruise ports.

Cruising from Tampa would be very convenient for us, but the Veendam goes to Mexico and Belize which we love, but once again would rather do something new this time. We went to Belize once, back in 2014 on the Carnival Glory for Trevon’s 18th birthday. It was Amy, Elizabeth, Mahnara, Zarius, Trevon and Diana (our mom and the kids’ Grammie). It was amazing cruise which we’ll never forget, but it was taken before we started making our cruise vlogs. We do have videos of our photos from the trip on YouTube, check it out! We visited Altun Ha (Mayan ruins) and it was wonderful.

Make sure to follow us on Facebook because it’s where we post updates. Once we book a Holland America cruise we will also add it to our Upcoming Cruises page here on Sea Cruisers Vlogs and also on ShipMate.

Happy cruising everyone!

How To Cruise More Often!

Want to know how to cruise more often? Do what we do, put your cruises on “lay-a-way”! I think one of the most important cruise tips we can give you is to put your cruise on “lay-a-way”. What do I mean by layaway? Well let me tell you!

Sit down and plan out the cruises you want to do over the course of whatever time … let’s say 2 years. Once you know which cruises you want to do and when you want to do them start booking! Since you will most likely be booking far in advance a great cruise tip is to wait for a deposit sale. This will enable you to spend less now on that future cruise … and use the money you saved to book another dream cruise for the future!

Did you know you can have as many cruises booked as you want? Just make sure to check the cruise line’s cancellation policies first. Some cruise lines offer penalty-free cancellations while others charge you if you cancel. I personally like the cruise lines that don’t charge you for cancelling, it makes life much easier and flexible.

Now that you have your first cruise or two booked you can figure out your payment plan. See, when you book a cruise you put down a deposit. After your initial deposit you aren’t required to make any payments until final payment day, which is usually 90 days before sailing. After final payment date you are in lockdown … if you cancel your cruise you lose everything you paid on it, unless you have travel protection (which I highly recommend).

The way to make this lay-a-way work though is to make payments. It can be hard because there isn’t a set due date for payments (actually that’s the hardest part). Paying when you don’t have to … but you need to or this method just won’t work right! Look at your balance due and the amount of time you have before final payment date. Once you figure it out divide the balance due by the months or weeks you have to pay in full and make those payments every single month (or week, it’s up to you). Of course in real life things happen and most likely you will miss some payments, but it’s okay, just catch up if you can and continue on. Next thing you know it will be final payment date and you will already be paid in full (feels great, trust me)!

It’s important to recognize your budget monthly and only book cruises you can afford to pay on. You don’t want to go putting lots of cruise deposits down and then not be able to make your monthly payments and be hit with big bills all of a sudden. That leads to cancellation, which means no cruise(s), and the goal here is to cruise a lot!

In a nutshell:

• Determine how many cruises you want to do in the future

• Watch for cruise sales, or cheap cruises and reduced deposits

• Start out by booking one cruise then add more as your budget allows

• Calculate your monthly payments for each cruise and pay them on time

• Continue the cycle as your budget allows … the sky is the limit!

Remember reduced deposits and cruises on sale equal more cruises in the future! Since you are booking in advance you have the upper hand here. Cruises are usually cheaper the farther out they are, unless you find a super last minute cruise deal (which are good too!).

We hope that our cruise tips will help you take more vacations and cruise more often. Have fun and happy cruising!!
